Invitation to a DevOps Clarity Session

It’s probably the burden of knowledge, but oftentimes I get the feeling that I have a calling to save as many young people as possible from this government. There are a couple of ways out of this. One of them is to always encourage them to vote. Another is to provide them with opportunities. Talent is clearly not the issue.

Earlier this year, I was on one of my late calls with a guy on a project and we branched off into talking about skills in high demand. He said he knows three companies looking for DevOps Engineers (he’s in Germany) and asked if I know anyone in Nigeria because the companies want to pay the relocation expenses. He even sent me a link to a site actively advertising these jobs. That was not the first time I was hearing of the skillset but it was the first time I paid attention. So I went to discussion forums to see what people were saying. It looked good, I posted about it here, and went my way.

Fast forward a few months later while conducting random research, I came across a Global Market Insights report of DevOps growing at over 20% CAGR. Even in the tech space, that’s a staggering high growth rate. What’s more, the growth drivers are advancements in automation in software developments and the adoption of virtualization. Ignore if you don’t know what these are, but take it from me that they are a big deal.

After a couple of verification about this figure, I rushed to share. One of those who latched unto it is the person who chatted me up in this post’s image.

As shown in the image above, he shared some challenges he had at the beginning with me. Challenges such as not having a clear direction on how to go about learning the skill, and sifting through tons of Youtube videos without getting specifics.

So I determined to do something about it: Get someone already in the industry into a room and have him offer clarity to those interested on the path to follow for the best outcome.

Like I said on Monday, my paid Zoom is capped at 100 people and this means the best use of my time is to get the most committed people to this session. Folks suggested that I use a minimum fee to weed out those who would indicate interest just to fill the spaces, so I have pegged the fee at N1,950. (Here is the link to register ).

Here is what I am thinking about the class:

  • Get committed young people into the session
  • Offer them clarity on the DevOps opportunity
  • Have them all in a Wahtsapp group where DevOps materials and as time goes on, opportunities would be shared.

That’s it, really.

Talent is universal, opportunity is not. It’s a worthy quest to offer pathways to opportunities for as many people as come in contact with us.

See you on Saturday at 10 am.
